SUMMARY:Medicine Buddha Retreat
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDo you want to\nhelp others & heal the world?\nThe teachings\, practices and prayers of the Medicine Buddhas will help enable you to heal yourself and your community. During this 10-day Medicine Buddha retreat you will learn from the ancient and original Tibetan text exclusively translated for this event. The focus will be on practicing the sadhana\, meditation\, mantra\, vows and reciting the sutras. What matters is applying what you learn for maximum impact so that you can create the karma to benefit all beings. Taking a deep dive and practicing with integrity will increase the power of the healing. \nTo gain mastery it is best to dedicate 10 full days in a retreat setting or choose a more flexible study schedule. This could be done at home or in a retreat setting of your choice. Either way\, you should plan to set aside the time and space to complete the retreat. \nIdeally one would spend time at a retreat like Diamond Mountain which offers unparalleled conditions for retreats of all types. At this time we encourage you to do this retreat at home or at a safe retreat place in your country\, maybe together with other participants. As soon as it is safe we would be delighted to receive solo retreaters and groups at Diamond Mountain 🙂 \nWhere: Exclusive live stream from Diamond Mountain Retreat Center & recorded classes\nWhen: 11-20 December 2020 \nSign up for this unique opportunity so that you can receive the blessing to study the Medicine Buddha teachings\, practices & prayers! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEverything you need to know about Bodhisattva Vows & the Medicine Buddha Retreat\n\n\n\nAt the beginning of the Medicine Buddha retreat you will pledge to develop the wish to become a Bodhisattva. A Bodhisattva is a person with bodhichitta. Bodhichitta is the wish to attain pure and total enlightenment for the sake of all other beings. This wish is your intention to develop the characteristics of a Bodhisattva! \n“You already have the seed to become a Buddha but it needs to be awakened. But in order to take Medicine Buddha empowerment we have to commit to the wish\, and you need the empowerment to do the practice.” – Geshe Michael Roach \nThat commitment has a special ceremony that was written by Arya Nagarjuna. The ceremony to take the wish will be live streamed and is a requirement to take the Medicine Buddha empowerment. The empowerment allows you to learn the Medicine Buddha sadhana and practice the mantra. This all takes place during the first two days of the retreat. \nIf you already have the wish or action vows it is always good to take them again! \nAfter the retreat you can take the Bodhisattva Vows course (ACI 7) which is included in the retreat package. You can study (alone or as a group) through January and February 2021\, which we highly recommend. On completion of the course work and when you have sufficient courage and determination to truly make a difference – you can take the Bodhisattva action vows. If you choose to take the Bodhisattva action vows\, you commit to practicing and keeping those vows.\nGeshe Michael Roach will be giving the Bodhisattva action vows in a worldwide ceremony that will take place online late February or early March 2021! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nI cannot get off work. Can I still complete the course?\n\n\n\nYes! If you are not able to set aside this time we also offer a reduced schedule to allow you to fit it into your life. At a minimum you should set aside 3 hours a day for classes and another hour to practice reciting the sadhana in your own time. We recommend\, however\, that you attend the full 10 days to get the best result. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCan I participate intermittently? Can I just catch a few days?\n\n\n\nIt is highly recommended that you attend the full 10 days to get the best result. You will be able to study in your own time but you may then miss out on attending the live streaming of some classes and Q&A’s. It is important to remember that the blessing on the first day will ONLY be available via live stream. By receiving the live streamed blessing on the first day you make a commitment to the teacher to study the full curriculum. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat should I do now?\n\n\n\nOnce you have registered for your preferred program\, we suggest you book 11-20 December 2020 in your calendar and arrange for time off. Next you should decide if you prefer to do a solo retreat at home or at a special retreat place (like Diamond Mountain) near you\, or join a small group organized by a local representative. Over the next few months you will receive more information about the upcoming event\, how to plan and prepare for your retreat. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDoing your retreat at home?\n\n\n\nYou will\, depending on your package\, receive a retreat schedule or will have one created specifically for you. Once you receive your schedule you can read more about how to do a retreat at home. It is important to take the time to create a space that is safe and quiet\, have enough food\, make sure your family is taken care of and that work will not intrude during this time. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCan I book a quiet place like Diamond Mountain for my retreat?\n\n\n\nPerhaps it is not possible to do a retreat at home. There are organizations\, like Diamond Mountain\, that specialize in individual and group retreats. Here retreaters are supported by a team of knowledgeable\, experienced meditators. Staff are there to care for guests in every aspect of their retreat experience\, from guidance in how to prepare for a retreat to meditation instruction and much more. Search for a retreat center or quiet place near you where you could complete your retreat undisturbed. Please make sure that you have access to the internet. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIs there a small group I can safely join for the duration of the retreat in my country?\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBeing part of a group (especially if you are new to doing retreat) is often a great idea. Of course it has to be done with great care and safely during COVID. We have asked seasoned practitioners to host retreat pods. A retreat pod is a gathering of retreatants that experience a mix of time alone as well as some group interactions. If you like this idea\, we will send you a list of the local organisers near you. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat might my schedule look like?\n\n\n\nHere is what a daily schedule looks for this retreat. Please be aware that depending on your time zone the order might be different and participants will receive a time zone adjusted schedule for the ten days. Your schedule will help you know what to do for every hour of each day so that you can focus your full attention on learning and practicing. In the Lapis Lazuli package you can create an individualized retreat schedule with the guidance and support of a senior teacher. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n5:00 AM\nOne-Day Vows / Light Breakfast\n\n\n6:00 AM\nLive Class with GMR\n\n\n7:00 AM\nQ&A\n\n\n8:00 AM\nMeditation\n\n\n9:00 AM\nPreliminary Practice /\nDaily Practice (Jorchu & Sadhana)\n\n\n10:00 AM\nYoga\n\n\n11:00 AM\nMeal Prayer and Meal of the Day\n\n\n12:00 PM\nNap / Walk / Free Animals\n\n\n1:00 PM\nACI 7 – B’Vow Class\n\n\n2:00 PM\nMantra Practice\n\n\n3:00 PM\nlong / short Sadhana\n\n\n4:00 PM\nClass\n\n\n5:00 PM\nSong of MB\n\n\n6:00 PM\nGuru Yoga\n\n\n7:00 PM\nJournal & Bedtime\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat am I paying for?\n\n\n\nDharma is always free. All retreats\, even virtual ones\, have certain costs and many people working in the background to bring the Dharma to you. For the Gold and Lapis Lazuli packages we have added more interactive elements and therefore suggested a small fee to cover some of these costs. Additional donations and sponsorships are always welcome as Diamond Mountain is a 501(c) organization that relies on your generosity. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nI would like to organize a small retreat for my Sangha!\n\n\n\nIf you are inspired and would like to organise a small retreat group in your area or city\, please contact Hanlie@diamondmoutain.org or Sunam@diamondmountain.org for more information. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRespect all the laws and regulations of all places and countries in the world\n\n\n\nDiamond Mountain Retreat Center strives to respect all the laws and regulations of all places and countries in the world\, including those where Buddhism may not be an approved practice or religion. Our policy is to not advertise to people in locales where there may be restrictions nor encourage people to attend any of our programs online where they would not otherwise be permitted. We ask everyone who is participating in these events to also respect those laws and regulations as well and to not send information\, even in a personal way\, to those people and places where our programs may not be permitted. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

As a closet nerd\, I strive at all times to bridge the gap between theory and real world practice. The result is equanimity\, perpetual learning\, and loads of fun!” \nAn adventure seeker and serial entrepreneur she started her first of several businesses at the age of 23 followed by a career that spans three decades and four continents. As a social scientist she was inspired by Nelson Mandela who said: “People must learn to hate\, and if they can learn to hate\, they can be taught to love”.\nShe started meditating and doing spiritual retreats in the early 2000’s. A friend introduced her to Asian Classics Institute courses where she received teachings from Geshe Michael Roach\, Lama David Stumpf\, and Lama Marut. She taught herself yoga from The Tibetan Book of Yoga\, expanded her repertoire to Ashtanga\, Inyengar\, and Bikram only to find her way back to the yoga of Lady Niguma. A trip to the temples of Thailand forever changed her life. \nHanlie’s unique quality is to present complex concepts in a simple and structured way so that you can apply the principles consistently and reap the positive effects in your daily life. \nVenerable Sunam \nVenerable Sunam is passionate and joyful in everything she does and mixes “rock ’n’ roll” with a touch of German efficiency. She is a licensed veterinarian\, successful IT project/program manager\, and is working as a database specialist for multi-million dollar international projects. After decades of chasing her own happiness with egoism\, hazardous sports\, lots of work and not getting anywhere\, Ven. Sunam discovered Dharma in 2005 by reading the Diamond Cutter by Geshe Michael Roach. Ever since she has been studying\, teaching\, and translating ancient texts with joy and happiness\, transforming herself into a kinder person. \nVen. Sunam has studied all 18 ACI Courses and 11 DCI Seminars\, has attended nearly all LAM RIM Retreats and several Translator Terms. She is also a certified Sivananda yoga teacher since 2004. Ven. Sunam has done many retreats and has a wealth of experience in meditation and teaching. She successfully practiced the “Circle Day” for more than 10 years and has done lots of short retreats and a 3-month-retreat in our lineage. \nShe teaches with humor and lots of tips on how to apply the teachings in everyday life.

SUMMARY:"Stupas in Time and Space" by Hanlie and Sunam
DESCRIPTION:“Stupas in Time and Space” by Hanlie and Sunam\nHave you ever been curious about stupas? \nA long time ago\, great teachers were cremated\, but sometimes they were buried in a seated\, meditative position with a mound of earth covering them up. Thus\, the domed shape of the stupa came to represent a person seated in meditation much as the Buddha was when he achieved Enlightenment. Legend has it that about 250 years after the Buddha’s death\, King Ashoka was responsible for building many stupas all over northern India and the other territories under the Mauryan Dynasty in areas now known as Nepal\, Pakistan\, Bangladesh\, and Afghanistan. Over time different types of stupas emerged. \nThis talk is about how stupas have changed over time and specifically stupas in our Tibetan lineage. Join us to learn everything you need to know about the Medicine Buddha stupas that will be built at Diamond Mountain! \nWhere:   Live stream  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85722326669\nWhen: Saturday\, August 7\, 6 am Arizona\, 3 pm Berlin\, 4 pm Moscow\, 9 pm Singapore\nTickets: free \nJoin Live Stream

SUMMARY:"Stupas: Meaning and Symbols" by Hanlie and Sunam
DESCRIPTION:“Stupas: Meaning and Symbols” by Hanlie and Sunam\nA stupa is something mysterious and beautiful. \nWhile the overall shape of the stupa closely resembles the image of a seated Buddha\, every part of it – inside and out – is infused with meaning and symbolism. The base of the stupa is fashioned in the form of a many-stepped square throne or plinth\, known as a “lion throne.” Above this ascend the stupa’s hemispherical dome; a square reliquary chamber\, or harmika; an upper spire composed of up to 13 umbrella wheels\, and a crowning finial of a lotus umbrella\, crescent moon\, sun disc\, and dissolving flame or jewel.\nIf you want to learn more about this fascinating structure join Sunam and Hanlie on their enthusiastic learning journey about the meaning and symbolism of stupas! \nWhere:   Live stream  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85722326669\nWhen: Saturday\, September 4\, 6 am Arizona\, 8 am Guadalajara\, 3 pm Berlin\, 4 pm Moscow\, 9 pm Singapore \nTickets: free \nJoin Live Stream

SUMMARY:Medicine Buddha Retreat 2021
DESCRIPTION:GO WITH THE FLOW\nShamatha\, Vipashyana\, & the Medicine Buddha\nUsing Emptiness Meditation to Get the Medicine Buddha to Work!\nWANT TO MAKE YOUR MEDICINE BUDDHA PRACTICE MORE POWERFUL?\nIn this retreat\, we will focus on a deeper exploration into the Medicine Buddha teachings and practice using emptiness meditations from the hot-off-the-translation program-press: Light on the Path to Freedom\, An Explanation of the Steps For Developing an Understanding That Nothing is Itself written by Choney Lama\, Drakpa Shedrup (1675–1748). With these meditations – SHAMATHA and VIPASHYANA – we explore the depth of the now completely translated The Prayers of the Seven Buddhas\, the longer sutra of the Medicine Buddha. \nTo gain mastery it is best to dedicate 10 full days in a retreat setting or choose a more flexible study schedule. This could be done at home or in a retreat setting of your choice. Either way\, you should plan to set aside the time and space to complete the retreat. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat should I do now?\n\n\n\nOnce you have registered for your preferred program\, we suggest you book 23-31 October 2020 in your calendar and arrange for time off. Over the next few months\, you will receive more information about the upcoming event\, how to plan and prepare for your retreat. Search for a retreat center or quiet place near you where you could complete your retreat undisturbed. Please make sure that you have access to the internet. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat might my schedule look like?\n\n\n\nHere is what a daily schedule looks for this retreat. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRespect all the laws and regulations of all places and countries in the world\n\n\n\nDiamond Mountain Retreat Center strives to respect all the laws and regulations of all places and countries in the world\, including those where Buddhism may not be an approved practice or religion.

SUMMARY:The Diamond & the Mountain – by Ven. Jigme
DESCRIPTION:The Diamond & the Mountain\nJoin us on Jan 8\, 2022 to listen to her story and the story on Diamond Mountain! \nWho: Ven. Jigme Palmo\nWhere:   Live stream  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85722326669\nWhen: Saturday\, January 8\, 6 am Arizona\, 7 am Guadalajara\, 2 pm Berlin\, 4 pm Moscow\, 9 pm Singapore \nTickets: free \nJoin Live Stream\n\nIn 2002\, a modern group of pioneers came to Diamond Mountain in search of inner treasures: a clear\, disciplined mind and an open heart. Their dream was to give anyone who sought a balanced\, meaningful life the opportunity to explore their possibilities in the ideal setting\, with all the guidance they need. After 15 years the initial vision has actualized. The founders created a place both comfortable and peaceful\, remote but accessible\, where people from all walks of life can be fully supported in their quest for insight. Ven. Jigme Palmo was one of the earliest Sangha members and also a founder of Diamond Mountain. At the age of ten\, the indefatigable Ven. Jigme transferred from public school to a Catholic school because she wanted to study religious philosophy in a deeper way. Later she received her masters’ degree in East-West Psychology from the Institute of Integral Studies and completed all Asian Classics Institute and Diamond Way courses at Diamond Mountain. Over the years she has taught Asian Classics Institute (ACI) course\, eleven total courses at Diamond Mountain on the Diamond Cutter and Heart Sutras\, plus two courses on how to do retreat.\nIn the last three decades she has completed more than 3 ½ years total of silent solitary retreat\, including one for 10 months and one for 8 months\, as well as more than 15 four to six-week retreats. Ven. Jigme has always loved the wildness of the area and the animals that come to see you\, especially when in deep retreat. Her global network of students can be found in Mexico\, Ireland\, Argentina\, Canada\, the USA and online.

SUMMARY:How we can Help the Situation in Europe (Live-Broadcast with Geshe Michael Roach)
DESCRIPTION:Live-Broadcast with Geshe Michael Roach\nFriday\, February 25\, 2022\nWHEN:\n9 am Arizona\n11 am Guadalajara\n17:00 Berlin\n18:00 Kyiv\n19:00 Moskau\nWHO: Geshe Michael Roach\nWHERE: Join via zoom or Youtube live stream\nTo our brothers & sisters\nin the Ukraine and in Russia\nFebruary 24\, 2022 \nOur dearest brothers & sisters: \nWe have heard this morning of the heart-breaking news of the killing and injury of groups of people by others\, in your countries. It brings us terrible sadness\, especially when we recognize that there is no country\, and no one of us individually\, who is free inside of us from the same kind of violence. \nWe pledge to all of you brothers & sisters that for the next year\, daily\, we will add—into our daily meditations—prayers and contemplations about where this violence comes from\, and how to stop it by changing ourselves: by reading and re-reading the explanations from our lineage which are attached to this letter\, and trying to follow them hour by hour in our own lives. \nWe also pledge\, as the directors in charge of the 12 Worldview organizations\, that we will provide to you brothers & sisters any spiritual or physical needs that you may personally have during these difficult times. Please please let us know about anything we can do\, financially or spiritually or emotionally or otherwise\, to provide for the needs of you and your loved ones\, and we will do our very best. You can contact any one of us\, and we will share and respond with the rest. \nThis we pledge\, \nSeiji Arao\, executive vice-president\nDCI Global &\nThe Sedona College of International Management \nJohn Brady\, executive director\,\nThe Asian Legacy Library \nNick Lashaw\, director\nThe Diamond Cutter Classics \nTim Lowenhaupt\, executive director\nThe Asian Classics Institute \nHector Marcel\, Stephen McManus\, & Rachel Webb\, directors\nThree Jewels New York \nBrigitte Mayer\, director\nDiamond Mountain Retreat Center \nAnatole & Aisha Nguyen\, directors\nGreen Stretch Pen \nConnie O’Brien\, director\nYoga Studies Institute \nJamie Plante\, director\nThe Knowledge Base \nRosa van Grieken\, director\nDiamond Cutter Jewels \nElly van der Pas\, director\nThe Diamond Cutter Press \nGeshe Michael Roach\, founder\nWorldview Organizations \nto our dear Ukraine & Russia friends

SUMMARY:The 6 Flavors of Emptiness
DESCRIPTION:The 6 Flavors of Emptiness\nThis meditation practice focuses on understanding ultimate reality (emptiness) on a more advanced level. Mahamudra is meditation on the ultimate nature of one’s own mind. We learn to meditate on the emptiness of things and oneself\, examining them on six different levels\, each one leading to a more sophisticated understanding which we use to look at our own mind and it’s nature. Meditating on the ultimate nature of one’s own mind is an important part of a larger practice that leads to the direct perception of ultimate reality. The direct experience of ultimate reality is a key meditative realization that assures very quick enlightenment. This program will be a combination of teachings and guided meditation. \nWho: Sarahni\nWhere: Offered via zoom\nWhen: Monday and Thursday evenings\, 6-8pm MST\, April 28 to May 23.\nTickets: free\,\nRegister: Let Sarahni know that you want to join. Click here. \nSarahni is retired from a career as a Physician Assistant and Acupuncturist. She left her work in medical care to pursue the wisdom through which people can find healing into ultimate happiness. She\, with her husband\, David\, are long time residents of southern Arizona enjoying the great outdoors year-round. They are both well trained in the monastic teachings of Gelukpa Buddhism as well as in the Lam Rim\, Stages of the Path to Enlightenment. In 2014 they completed 40 months of isolated meditation retreat with a small group in the northern foothills of the Chiricahua Mountains\, at Diamond Mountain Retreat Center. Sarahni has been sharing the Asian Classics Institute’s course series since 2002. With the availability of on-line classes in 2014\, she has been able to extend access to this powerful training to many.
